Most driver demos are a search for a big number. Ours is a search for a
narrower gap between your best strike and your ordinary one, because the ordinary one is what shows
up on fourteen of your sixteen tee shots. About 100 minutes, one golfer on the floor, with Roland

The argument
A Loud Number Tells You Almost Nothing About A Round Of Golf
A driver that produces one gorgeous strike out of fourteen has told you what happens
when everything lines up. It has told you nothing about the other thirteen, and a round of golf is made
almost entirely out of the other thirteen.
So the sitting opens on your own driver, untouched, with face tape on and the monitor recording every
number for fourteen swings. From that we compute keep rate — your median ball speed measured
against your best — and that single figure becomes the thing every later change is judged against.
A shaft or head change that raises the median and tightens the spread is doing real work. A change that
only raises the peak is decoration.

What gets measured
Three Things Move Before We Touch A Component
Length
Comes first because it moves your strike pattern more than any head or shaft change we make
afterward. Most golfers on this floor end up half an inch to an inch shorter than the driver they
arrived with, and the census usually explains why within a dozen swings.
Head Mass And Loft
Set against your measured attack angle, not against a number printed on the sole. A negative
attack angle asks for more static loft than most stock builds carry, and adjustable hosels let us
dial that in half a degree at a time during the sitting itself.
Shaft Profile
Read on the frequency analyser rather than off the letter printed on the shaft. Weight comes
first, because a golfer who cannot locate the clubhead at the top of the swing is losing more keep
rate than any flex mismatch will cost him.

Common misses
What Usually Brings A Golfer In For This One
“My good ones are great and my average ones are ugly”
A keep rate problem almost every time. The good ones prove the club can perform; the census tells
us where the spread is actually coming from, which is usually length or head mass rather than the
shaft everyone suspects first.
“I lost distance and I do not know why”
Often a shaft that has softened with age, a swingweight that drifted after a grip change nobody
logged, or simply a golfer whose transition has slowed and whose driver never caught up with it.
