The Crossover Point Is A Measurement, Not An Opinion

Golfers rarely ask a clean question about hybrids. They ask whether they need one, when the actual question is where a long iron stops being worth the space it takes up in the bag. That point is measurable, and it is usually not where the golfer expects.

The argument

We Hit Your Long Irons Before We Hit Anything Else

The sitting does not start on the hybrid rack. It starts by putting your 3- and 4-iron through a keep rate census, because the club that should retire is the one where the median falls off a cliff relative to the best strike — not necessarily the one that feels the least comfortable.

Once the crossover club is identified, the question shifts to what belongs on the far side of it. That is sometimes a standard hybrid, sometimes a high-lofted fairway wood, and occasionally a driving iron with a different sole, depending on where you actually play the shot from.

What gets measured

Where Your Long Irons Actually Stop Working

Keep Rate Curve

Median against best across your 3-, 4-, and 5-iron, plotted rather than eyeballed. The club where the curve drops sharply is the club we replace; the ones on either side of it usually stay.

Address Picture And Sole Width

Hybrids look wildly different at address from the irons they replace, and golfers who fixate on one head shape are frequently reacting to the picture rather than the performance. We fit the sole to the lies you actually face, rough included, not just a clean range mat.

A recorded case

What The Numbers Actually Showed One Golfer

A recent Wexford client came in convinced he needed one hybrid to replace a 4-iron he had never liked. The census showed his 4-iron was fine — his 5-iron was the one losing nearly twelve miles an hour of ball speed on anything but a centred strike. He left with two hybrids and a set that gapped correctly for the first time in years, which was not the sitting he thought he had booked.

Bring The Long Irons You Are Suspicious Of

Bring your 3-iron through 6-iron even if you are only curious about one of them. The crossover point moves when a set is looked at together, and guessing at it club by club is how gaps open up unnoticed.
