The Kink In The Set Is The Whole Problem
A golfer rarely describes a set as wrong. He describes one club as strange. “My 8-iron feels different” is the sentence we hear most often on this floor, and it is almost never about the 8-iron in isolation. It is about a break in a slope that should have been smooth — a lie angle, a shaft frequency, or a leading-edge position that jumps instead of easing through the set.
We check every club against its neighbours before we check anything against you. Loft, lie, length, swingweight, and shaft frequency on all nine clubs go on the bench cold, plotted as a slope. The kink usually shows up before we have hit a single ball.

Clay Loam Changes What A Sole Is Allowed To Do
Western Pennsylvania fairways run cool-season grass over heavy clay loam, which behaves like four different surfaces across a season. A sole that reads perfectly in July can be a shovel in the third week of April, and the same sole can start skipping off baked ground by late August. We check the lie board reading against both conditions rather than the one sitting outside the door that day.
